MED - MULTIPLE E - MAIL SYNDROME
In 1971, when Ray Tomlison, send the first E – mail, he would have never thought that it would be the pre cursor to a form of distinctive psychiatric disorder named MED or Multiple E – mail Syndrome. This is a disorder that the author of this blog has experienced over a protracted period of time, and might most probably be the first one to discover and call this syndrome MED.
MED can be touted as the cyber equivalent of MPD or Multiple Personality Syndrome, where the person experiencing the disorder dons many different personalities, all the time without any clue that he or she is becoming an entirely different person, in traits, in style, in manner, however short the transition is. As MPD, MED is not perilous, but pernicious. This danger shows its effect very slowly and one has to wait for a prolonged period of time to be aware of the dangers that MED posses.
As a prime example, the author of this blog has 3 separate, characteristic and unique E – mail ID’s with three different service providers. As soon as the log in happens the author transforms to his alter ego in the cyber space, where he has no inhibitions, no fear of expressing his mind, and is very vociferous. He speaks out his mind through innumerable E – mails; he keeps tabs with his friend through the incessant forwards and chats with all of his chat – buddies. As soon as the log out happens the cyber world comes crashing around him, and the cold reality of the monotonous life creeps in. This suffocating reality becomes really excruciating and takes the author to his next e – personality.
Like the oxygen circle, the author fluctuates and goes around his pompous e – personalities with verve and vigor. He can become any body in the cyber world. He tries to become all that what he wanted to be, but couldn’t be. He uses the virtual world to travel from Las Vegas to Paris, he climbs in to the most expensive jets and yachts, he plays black jack and ends up with three aces, he dives into the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean and snorkels in the exotic beaches of Honolulu, his rules and deals are as quick and decisive as that of the Sicilian Mafia, he goes round his limousine with a train of blonds and brunettes, he feels the comforting coldness of the Smith and Wesson snug in its holster under his armpit, and drives the world in a frenzy as he goes around.
Most of my readers might have understood by now, why MED is “Pernicious”?
Really ...?
ReplyDeleteNeed a mental treatment.
ReplyDeleteI feel the blog fails to explain the concept of multiplicity and its effect. It does gives some narration about the concept virtual cyber personality; but not much about how the multiplicity results in complexity.
